BOGOTÁ | Solo Exhibition, March 17 - April 9, 2016
Known as a pioneer of urban art in Eastern Europe, following the end of communism, the Czech artist Jan Kaláb (1978) comes to Colombia with the exhibition “Pulso Cromático” not only to present his works through graffiti, mural, painting, sculpture and installation, but also to confront us with our own limits, inevitably those moments where the circumstances are transformed.
The use of the circle as a container of matter which vibrates with color, creates the sensation of waves reaching beyond the limits of the piece without a precise direction, like some sort of perceptible yet invisible presence. With a sophisticated, proper handling of geometry and color, he presents us with a great graphic metaphor of the world, where we can identify and feel the tension that exists between one layer and another and the points where images transcend their limits, until joining and contaminating one another.
Kaláb’s work always seem to be on the verge of exploding, overflowing the physical space of the canvas, which creates tensions in perception and ambiguities in the nature of his work that seemingly melt the space between sculpture and painting.

Conocido como uno de los artistas precursores del arte urbano en Europa del Este, tras la culminación de los sistemas comunistas, el artista checo Jan Kaláb (1978) llega a Colombia con la exposición “Pulso Cromático”, no sólo para darnos cuenta de su destreza para expresarse a través del graffiti, el mural, la pintura, la escultura y la instalación, sino también para confrontarnos con nuestros propios límites, con esos momentos en donde inevitablemente las circunstancias se transforman.
El empleo del círculo como un contenedor de la materia que vibra con los colores, genera la sensación de ondas que superan el soporte que las contiene sin saber a dónde van, como una especie de presencia invisible pero perceptible. Con un manejo sofisticado, propio de la geometría y el color nos plantea una gran metáfora gráfica del mundo en donde podemos identificar y sentir la tensión que existe entre una capa y otra y los puntos en donde se trascienden los límites hasta juntarse contaminándose unos con otros.
Las obras de Kaláb parecieran estar siempre al borde de estallar, desbordándose hasta usar el espacio físico como lienzo, por lo que genera tensiones en la percepción, y ambigüedades en la naturaleza de sus obras, las cuales se confunden entre la escultura y la pintura.
