Fabien Castanier Gallery is proud to present IMAGE NOT AVAILABLE, the first solo exhibition in the USA by French conceptual artist Rero.
For the past 3 years, Rero has established his work through his innovative approach to street art. Though introduced to the street through graffiti, working for a time under the name Aurer, he eventually felt limited by a spray can. He then began exploring imagery through the use of typography, while retaining the same values of graffiti.
With his distinctive visual style, Rero often inhabits disused and dilapidated spaces to explore the concept of “negation of the image,” presenting minimalist statements that combat our modern overdose on images and messages. He achieves this through the use of words and phrases with a stark black line crossing them out. Rero’s site-specific works enter the gallery space as installations that maintain a sense of destruction. His works on canvas emulate the abandoned walls where he often intervenes.
Rero was born in 1983 and studed graphic design at the London College of Communication. He has shown his work in numerous exhibitions and art fairs across Europe. He lives and works in Paris.
From June 30 – September 2, Fabien Castanier Gallery presents FREESTYLE, a group exhibition featuring a diverse range of original works, as well as silkscreen prints and photography.

Rimi Yang is an ethnic Korean who was born and raised in Osaka, Japan. In 1986 she moved to Ohio where she studied at Bowling Green University and then in 1991 to Los Angeles where she studied at California State University and the Los Angeles Academy of Figurative Art, the Otis College of Art and Design and spent a summer in Florence, Italy, studying at the Florence Academy of Art. She has lived and worked near the ocean in Santa Monica since 1991.
Yang is known for her intense enthusiasm for vibrant color which is manifested in both her figurative and her abstract paintings. Celebrating the chaotic emotional duality that exists in life in her art, she revels in the confusion mankind creates in its attempt to order the un-orderable and to explain the unexplainable. Adhering to Joseph Campbell’s dictum that the best things in life are those you cannot explain her paintings are intuitive, instinctive, balancing acts of contrasts.
DRILL BABY DRILL, the new exhibition featuring Michael Kalish and Eric Liot, will begin soon. The Opening Reception will be held on Saturday, February 4th, 7-10pm with complimentary bar and valet. The show will run from Feb. 4 – March 4.
Inspired by the tool of choice for these artists, not by oil, DRILL BABY DRILL takes its name from the power drills that both men routinely employ to produce their artworks. Through the reworking and repurposing of materials, Kalish and Liot cut, rivet and screw together layers of found objects.
